Approach
Relationships and Systems
HUman beings do not exist without relationships. We are in relationships with parents and grandparents. We are in relationships with our children and neighbors. Our internal selves are in relationship with our external selves. We have relationships with our jobs, money, and belief systems. To be human is to be interconnected with multiple systems. Therapy should be concerned with all of them in order to ensure sucess as we change our lives for the better. Therefore, I believe in learning about all aspects of your life so that you can find the most efficient path to success, and I am committed to including all of your significant people in session with you!
Attachment
We do not enter this world with a blank slate. We are all met by and learn from the people who care for us. This PROCESS creates strong bonds between us and our people. Therefore, THERAPY should be about UNDERSTANDING these bonds and how they shape the patterns by which we live.
Emotions
Emotions move fast! They often operate outside of our conscious mind and have us acting before we even realize what is going on. Therefore, I believe that we all should learn how to experience them better. I do not think we need to ignore or control emotions; rather, we should embrace their presence while learning to interact with them in healthier ways.
Stories
We all make meaning in and of our lives. This meaning is formed into stories. We tell ourselves these stories, but there are others who narrate to us as well. OVer time, their stories become a part of ours. It is helpful to reflect on those stories in order to see how they inform each other as well as our thoughts and actions, Perhaps even help us to take the story in a new direction.
